Dr. Sandra Rose Michael sits down with Dr. Jenny Hsu of Wellness Visions in Richmond, California, to talk about what changed her mind after a career in academic medicine. Dr. Hsu trained at UCSF, practiced internal medicine across several VA centers, and taught as a professor of medicine before opening her own center three years ago. She explains what drew her toward lifestyle medicine and the blue zones model, and why she came to believe that a person’s story matters as much to their wellbeing as anything on a chart. The two discuss the small pilot study she ran at her center and later presented to the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, her own curiosity about telomere testing, and the everyday habits she pairs with her sessions: detox baths, daily meditation, and a mostly vegetarian diet. They close on community, the group nights at her center, and what she calls the aloha energy.
